<p>Diabetes je sedmi najpogostejši vzrok smrti v ZDA. Lahko privede do resnih obolenj srca ali celo do slepote, odpovedi ledvic in amputacije.</p>
<p>Največ jih za diabetesom zboli v poznih starosti. V ZDA ima 25 odstotkov oseb starejših od 60 let diabetes.</p>
